   (Para. 4) If you are with some friends from abroad traveling in China, you can suggest some local herbal products. Facts are the most convincing advertisement. As with Western medicine, some Chinese herbal treatments could have a satisfactory result without any danger or side effects. For instance, medicated oil is good for both headache and insect bites. It is also helpful for other sicknesses. Chinese herb teas can soothe both an upset stomach and mild heatstroke. Yunnan White Medicine Spray will greatly reduce the pain of a stiff neck or a broken leg. All these have been widely accepted in many other countries outside China.

   (Para. 5) So bring some Chinese herbal products along in your first-aid kit and introduce them to your friends from abroad when you travel around China with them. Your friends will not only appreciate your kindness, but also get to know the satisfying effects of Chinese medicine.
   Difficult sentences

   Analysis: Of the biggest importance means “the most important”. In English,
   “be+of+(a.)+n.", with the former sounding more formal.
   eg: In any case, honesty as a principle is of the utmost importance
   ②What if your friends are reluctant to try them?(para.4) 假设外国朋友不原试用怎么办呢?
   Analysis: What if is used to make a supposition. It is an abbreviated form of “what
would be the result if…”.
   eg: Yes, he can play the main role. But what if he refuses to join us?
   ③As with Western medicine, some Chinese herbal treatments could have a satisfactory result without any danger or side effects. (para.4) 同西药一样,一些中华草药的疗效很令人满意,同时又没有任何风险和副作用。
   Analysis: As with is an abbreviated form of “as it is the case with…” It stresses the likeness between two things.
   eg: As with gold, some other metals are also very good conductors.
   我头痛,所以不能参加会议了。
   Useful words and expressions
   ①suffer from (headache): feel or have pain, loss, etc.
   I am suffering from headache, so I can’t attend the meeting.
   ②.traditional: a.传统的 tradition n.
   eg: To fire crackers on the New Year Eve is a traditional custom in China.
   Traditional ideas are not necessarily outdated ones.
   ③.reluctant: a. unwilling or disinclined 不情愿,不愿意
   eg: He is reluctant to go shopping with his wife.
   I don’t think he is reluctant to accept our invitation.
   ④convince: vt. make(sb.)feel certain; cause (sb.)to realize
   be convinced of sth.; convince sb. of sth.
   eg: I’m convinced of his honesty.
   We couldn’t convinced her of her mistake.
   convince: make or cause somebody feel certain
   By convincing me that no good could come of staying there, he persuaded me to leave.他使我相信留下来也没有用,所以劝我离开那儿。
   ⑤. side effects: a peripheral or secondary effect, especially an undesirable secondary effect of a drug or therapy

   You should be clearly aware of the side effects of the medicine before taking it.

   ⑥.soothe: vt. make ( a person, his nerves, passions) quiet or calm
   eg: The mother is soothing her crying baby.
   It’s difficult for him to soothe his anger.
