Text Study
Para. 7 I bring this all up because now Microsoft has a new version out, Windows XP, which according to everybody is the “most reliable Windows ever.” To me, this is like saying that asparagus is “the best vegetable ever.” But still, I am tempted. “Maybe this will be the one,” I say to Buddy, as the two of us wait for the disks to be scanned.
bring up
e.g.
These are matters that you can bring up in committee.

I’ll bring up your suggestion in the next meeting.
asparagus
e.g.
a. Asparagus or carrots?
b. Yes, sir. Now, there's a choice of vegetables, asparagus or fresh peas.
tempt
vt.
(tempt...into something/tempt...into doing
something)
e.g.
a. Nothing could tempt him into such a course.
b. He was tempted into doing a false step.
tempt
(2)吸引,诱使,诱导 (tempt ... to do)
e.g.
a. She tempted the child to have a little more soup.
b. Can I tempt you to another bottle of beer?
“Maybe this will be the one,” I say to Buddy, as the two of us wait for the disks to be scanned. (Para. 7)
the one 指的是the one I can get lucky from,正如前文第六段中所提到的“(I) keep buying Windows versions, hoping I’ll get lucky.”
Translation
Para.
