Para. 2 When I told my father, he asked, “Whydid you say no?”
Para. 3 “Well, there’s no way I could win,” I told him.
Para. 4 My father looked at me. “If you’re going to go through life never wanting to lose, you’re never going to do anything,” he said. “There’s no shame in trying and losing, because there are always going to be people better than you.”
Translation
Para. 2 我对父亲说了这事,他问我,“你为什么不参加竞选?”
Para. 3 “哎呀,我根本不可能获胜。”我说。
Para. 4 父亲看着我,“假如你这辈子从不想经历失败,那你永远也做不成任何事情。尝试并失败了,并没有什么可耻的,因为世上总有比你优秀的人。”
