    Para. 4 The identification of self through work also becomes a problem when it pushes other concerns—such as family life—out of the picture. Many men get too caught up in their jobs and do not allow enough time for their families. This can put a strain on their relationship with their wives and children.

    identification
    n. 识别、鉴定 The identification of something is the recognition that it exists, is important, or is true.
    Early identification of a disease can prevent death and illness.

    n. 身份证明;身份证件 If someone asks you for some identification, they want to see sth such as a driving license, which proves who you are.
    The woman who was on passport control asked me if I had any further identification. 检查护照的女士问我是否有进一步的身份证明。
    strain
    n. 过重的负担,过度紧张
    e.g.
    a. The strain on the rope made it broken.
    绳子因受力过大而断了。
    b. What a strain!
    真累人!

    put a strain on
    施加压力,使······紧张
    e.g.
    a. Nick’s frequent trips were putting a strain on their marriage.
    尼克频繁的外出使他们的婚姻关系趋于紧张。
    b. The accusations put a strain on the relations between the two companies.
    这些指控使两家公司的关系趋于紧张。

    1) get/be caught up in: 被······缠住/迷住;被牵涉,陷入
    e.g.
    a. She was worried that her husband was caught up in the trivia of everyday things.
    她丈夫被日常琐事缠身,她对此很担心。
    b. We were so caught up in the movie that we forgot what time it was.
    我们看电影入了迷,连时间都忘记了。
    c. The government seems to have got caught up in the difficulties between the employers and the trade unions.
    政府似乎陷在雇主与工会之间矛盾的困境中。

    2) allow something for somebody/something 为······预留······
    e.g.
    a. How much time would you allow for the trip?
    你将预留多少时间用于这次旅行?
    b. You need to allow for three meters of fabric for the dress.
    你必须留有三米的布料来做这条裙子。
