look to: to regard with expectation and anticipation

e.g.
a. We look to the future and greater advances in science and technology.
我们展望未来及科技上的更大进步。
b. The economist advised us to look to the future with optimism and hope.
这个经济学家建议我们要对未来乐观且有信心。
比较:look to somebody: to hope or expect to get some help, advice, etc. from somebody “指望,依赖
e.g.
a. As freshmen, we looked to our teachers for guidance.
作为大学新生,我们依赖老师的指导。
b. They are looking to me to take care of their son.
他们指望我照顾他们的儿子。

1. Your brainwaves may be used to check out whether you are busy, tired or doing your work
properly.
1) brainwave: n. “脑波”
e.g.
Brainwaves are electrical impulses generated by different parts of the brain.
脑波是大脑中不同部位产生的电脉冲。
与brain组成的复合词和短语还有brainstorm
“头脑风暴,自由讨论;专家对重大问题的献计献策”;brainwash “对······进行洗脑”; brain teasers “智力测试题”;brain trust “智囊团”;brain drain “人才流失”。

b. We brainstormed a list of behaviors we didn’t want in the classroom.

a. John had already checked out of the hotel.
约翰已经结完账离开宾馆了。(办手续离开)
b. He said he checked in to hotels using his real name and made no attempt to conceal his identity.
他说他用真名登记住饭店,不想掩盖自己的身份。(登记入住)
