When
the customer buys something at a store, he shows his card at the store.
This authorizes the store to charge the bank for the customer's purchase.
ª¤ With
the credit card, you don¡¯t have to carry much cash. This saves your
trips to the bank to cash checks or withdraw cash. Also, if you carry
credit cards instead of a lot of cash, you don¡¯t have to worry about
losing your money through carelessness or theft. If
you make your payments over several months and pay only part of the
total amount each month, the credit card company, or the bank who
sponsors the credit card, will add a small service charge to your
total bill. Credit
cards are big business. For example, Americans spend ¡ç16 billion a
year on cards, and there are already 59 million of them in circulation.
They
can use their credit cards in their daily lives. Such as spending
money on transportation , shopping and buying many things that they
need and want or spending a lot of money on entertainment. Many people
don't pay cash or write checks for these things. More and more, they
pay for things with credit cards.
