((Mr.
Smith and his children Peter and Anna have been out in the country
to get a Christmas tree and just returned. It’s about 4:30 pm)
Anna: (as she opens the front door): Hi, mom. We’re back.
Mrs. Smith:Did you get a nice tree?
Peter:Sure did. It’s a beauty
. Where do you want it?
Mrs. Smith: Let’s put it over there in the corner,
where we had it last year.
Mr. Smith: Peter found the tree. It’s really beautiful, isn’t it?
Mrs. Smith: They do shopping, thorough cleaning,
and cooking.
Peter: What do they do when
the day comes?
Mr. Smith: It certainly is.
Peter: I have a good eye for trees, right?
Mr. Smith: Let’s get to work. We want to have the tree ready to light up by this evening.
Peter: OK, dad, I will get the stand.
Mrs. Smith: Anna and I will bring the decorations down.
Mr. Smith: Hey, it really looks nice there. By the time
we get the top-piece on, it will just touch the ceiling.
Peter: Let’s string the lights first. Then we won’t
have to mess up the decorations.
Mrs. Smith:Good idea. Anna is still looking for ‘
the decorations.
Peter: Turn
on the lights, dad.
Everybody:Oh, it is the most
beautiful tree we have ever had.
Anna: While
you’re on the chair, dad, put the top piece on.
Peter:OK. Hand me some globes
and icicles. I’ll put them on these top branches. Then I won’t have
to get up here again.
Mrs. Smith: You’ll
have to excuse me. I must get dinner ready.
Mr. Smith:There, we’re about
done.
Anna: Gee,
I can hardly wait till it’s dark.
Peter:Let’s
switch the lights on again now that all the decorations are on the
tree.
Mr. Smith: Hey,
mom. Come here, and take a look.
Mrs. Smith:It’s
really beautiful.
Mr. Smith: Well,
I guess we’re all set for another Merry Christmas.
