1.       present 提出,指出:

    He is going to present a question at the meeting of this afternoon.

    他打算在今天下午的会议上提出一个问题。

2.       puzzling 令人迷惑的:

    a puzzling question 一个令人迷惑的问题。

3.       appear 出现,显露:

    To our surprise, the lost gold coin appeared to be on the floor of the drawing room.

让我们惊奇的是,那枚丢失的金币出现在客厅的地板上。

4.       perform 演出:

    What play will be performed tonight at the Palace of Culture?

    今晚在文化宫会上演哪个戏目?

5.       scene (故事或事件的)发生地点:

    The policeman on duty arrived at the scene of accident immediately.

    值班警察马上赶到了事故现场。

6.       character (小说,戏剧等)人物,角色:

    a leading character 主角

7.       suspiciously 可疑地:

    The young man wandering on the street acted so suspiciously that the policeman in plainclothes brought him to the police station.

    这个在街上闲逛的年轻人行迹十分可疑,以至于便衣警察将他送到了警察局。

8.       reception (旅馆等的)接待处:

    To check in, you should at first go to the reception desk to register.

    要入住的话,你应当首先去总台登记。

9.       knock 敲;击:

    knock at (on) a door敲门

10.   order 订购:

    order a suit 定制一套衣服/Don’t forget to order a meal for me. 不要忘了为我订一份饭。

11.   cereal 谷物

12.   bacon 腊肉:

    bring home the bacon 成功;谋生

13.   toast 烤面包片:

    I like toast for breakfast. 我早餐喜欢吃烤面包。

14.   apologize 道歉,认错:

    If I have said anything wrong, I am ready to apologize.

    如果我什么地方说错了,我很愿意道歉。

15.   definitely 肯定地;确切地:

    You are definitely wrong in your judgement of the situation.

    你对此形势的判断是完全(或绝对)错误的。

16.   disturb 打扰,扰乱:

    I am sorry to disturb you. 对不起,打扰你了。

17.   burst(into) 闯入:

    He burst into the room all of a sudden. 他突然闯进了房间。

18.   telegraph 电报:

    Please send the message by telegraph as soon as possible.

    请尽快用电报发出这则消息。

19.   discover 发现:

    It is Columbus who discovered the New Land. 正是哥伦布发现了新大陆。

20.   burgle 破门盗窃:

    Help! I have been burgled. 来人啊!小偷进来偷东西了!

21.   detective 侦探:

    He has been working as a private detective since 1980’s.

    自从八十年代以来,它一直做私家侦探这个工作。

22.   question 询问;审问;讯问:

    The witness was being questioned by the police. 这名证人正在被警方询问。

1.       lead to 导致某种结果(to为介词,后面接名词或名词性词组)

例:Hard work leads to success. 努力工作引导成功。

2.       be about to do sth.即将做某事

例:The airplane is about to take off. 这架飞机就要起飞了。

3.       pick up 拾起,捡起

例:He picked up a purse on the street and gave it to a policeman.

他在街上捡到一个钱袋,把它交给了警察。

4.       ever so 非常

例:He is ever so selfish.他非常自私。

5.       mix up 搞混,混淆

例:He listened to so many arguments at the meeting that he got all mixed up.

他在会上听了太多的论点以致他完全搞糊涂了。
