副词directly, immediately, by the time, as soon as也可以引起表示时间的状语从句。
… by the time the pickets began to chuckle, the Governor-General
was striding briskly up the school steps.

Immediately the dean arrived, the meeting began.
院长一到,会议马上开始。
D) no sooner 用在主句中时,从句中用 than;主句中使用了hardly,从句中则用
when, or before.
The Foreign Minister had no sooner finished answering one
question than another question cropped up.
外交部长刚回答完一个问题,就又冒出另一个问题。
2. They had hardly crossed the river when the bridge collapsed.
他们刚过河,桥就倒塌了。
将No sooner, hardly 放在主句的句首时,句子要发生变化:had + 主语
