The
Wuyishan Scenic Area is
located in
northern Fujian Province, on China’s southeastern coast. It is a typical
Danxia landform, situated on the southwestern slope of the northern
section of the Wuyi Mountains. Its main attractions are the Nine-bend
Stream and 36 peaks. The stream flows down the mountain in a zigzag
way, and the 36 peaks are all of red sandstone. The highest peak is
Dawang, standing at the mouth of the Nine-bend Stream. And there are
also the Goddess Peak and Fishing Terrace, with their reflections
on the surface of the stream forming a contrast of green water and
red mountains. With a humid
and warm climate, the Wuyi Mountains
are rich in
flora and fauna, including several thousand subtropical plant
species, rare flowers and trees as well as precious animals. In
the past 2,000 years, famous figures
such as emperors officials and men
of letters etc. have come to the mountains
to worship, tour or give lectures, leaving 300 historical sites, such
as temples, academies, pavilions and towers. At the foot of the mountains,
there are remains of a Han Dynasty city and kilns of the Song Dynasty.
On the 36 peaks, there are more than 700 places carved with inscriptions. |
