odour:(n.)
1) smell 气味
1. The meat smells of an unpleasant odour. 这肉的味道很难闻。
2. The odour of the cake is very pleasant. 蛋糕的味道可真好闻。
2)reputation ; approval ; favour 名誉;称赞;好感
1. He is in good odour with his friends.
他在朋友中是个口碑很好的人。
2. He is a person with an good odour.
他是个很有名望的人。
Cheese, like oil, makes too much of itself.
Meaning:Cheese is no better than oil for it annoys people with its offensive smell as well.
奶酪和煤油一样,也会呛的人够戗。
to make too much of : to attach importance to;exaggerate
重视;夸大
1.He makes much of fact. 他夸大事实。
2.She makes too much of the relationship with him.
她过于夸大与他的关系。
It wants the whole boat to itself.
Meaning:It wants to be the center of attention or to be in the limelight.
整条船都会充满它的气味。

1.(adj.)
1) not injured or damaged 完整的;未受伤的
1.You are lucky to escape with a whole skin.
你能安然脱险,真幸运。
2.There isn’t a whole plate in the house.
房子里没有一个完整的盘子。
2)entire ; complete 全部;完全
1.I wait for you for a whole hour. 我等了你整整一个小时。
2.I didn’t see him the whole night. 我整晚没看到他。
2.(n.) thing that is complete in itself 整体;全部
1.Four quarters make a whole. 四个四分之一构成全部。
2.He spent the whole of that year in England. 他在英格兰度过了那一整年。

on the whole: taking everything into consideration
从整体来看;大体上
1.On the whole ,your work is excellent. 从整体来看,你的工作出色.
2.You are right on the whole. 大体上,你是正确的。
