1. We should view the situation as a whole. 我们应该从整体上看形势。
2. He considers the affair as a whole. 他从总体上来考虑这件事。
wholly: (adv.) completely; entirely
完全地；全部地
1.Few men are wholly bad. 很少人是完全坏的。
2.I wholly agree with you on that point. 在那一点上我完全同意你。
It all seems cheese. There is too much odor about cheese
Meaning:Since there is too much odour about cheese, everything else in the hamper seems to smell and taste like it.
所有的东西都被染上了奶酪的味道.奶酪的味道实在是太大了。
not much of a : not a good 不算好的
1. He is not much of a scholar. 他不是一个很好的学者。
2. It wan not much of a good dinner. 这不是一顿很好的饭。
to knock over:to strike sb. or sth. down 弄倒;打翻
1.The bottle was knocked over by the cat. 猫把瓶子打翻了。
2.The old lady was knocked over by a car. 老太太被车给撞到了。
I called for the cheeses, ...
Meaning: I collected the cheeses…
我去取了奶酪。
to call for :

to visit(a house ,etc)to get sth.or to go somewhere with sb. 取某物或接某人同往某处
1.He calls for old newspapers on weekends. 他周末来收旧报纸。
2.I will call for you at 9 o’clock. 我9点来接你。
Comparison: affair ,incident ,accident ,and event
affair : (n.)(colloq)occurrence ;object (口)事件;物件
1.The car accident is a terrible affair. 车祸是很可怕的事。
2.Her hat is a wonderful affair. 她的帽子是件绝妙之物。
incident : (n.)1)event,esp one of less importance than others 事件(尤其比较小的事件)
1.She told us some of the amusing incidents of her holiday.
她给我们讲述其假期的有趣的事情。
2.Don’t make a fuss over such a incident between them.
不要就他们之间这点小事大惊小怪。
2)(modern use) happening,eg:rebellion,bomb explosion,war (现代用)事变(如叛乱,战争,爆炸)

这时常发生边界冲突。

不测;祸事;事故
1.He was killed in a car accident.

意外事故总是会发生的。
event : happening,usu sth. important 重要的事
1.It is a quite event for China to held the Olympic game.
对中国而言，举办奥运会的确是件大事。
2. This is a most important event in her family.
这对她家来说可是件大事。
