Meaning:It made the place quite well-known. 这地方却因此而出了名。
reputation:(n.)
the general opinion about the character,qualities of sb. or sth.
名声;名誉

1.He is a man of high reputation. 他是个很有名望的人。
2.He has a reputation for courage. 他以勇敢著称。
to live up to one’s reputation:
to live in the way that people expect不负众望;行为与声誉相符
1.He lives up for his parents’ reputation.
他没有辜负父母的期望。
2.We should live up for our country’s reputation.
我们不应当辜负祖国对我们的期望。
be reputed as /to be:
to be generally considered or reported to be 被认为;被当作
1.He is reputed very wealthy. 他被认为很富有。
