Meaning: He shift his aim from the breast of the horseman to the horse because he didn’t want to aim directly at his father. 但是这回他瞄准的是马而不是人。 He was calm now; not a tremor affected any muscle of his body; his breathing, until suspended in the act of taking aim, was regular and slow. Meaning: His breathing was regular until he held his breath in the act of taking aim. 他现在镇定自若，身上没有一块肌肉在发抖。呼吸均匀而缓慢，只是在瞄准的时候他才屏住了气。 private (n.): soldier of the lowest rank 士兵，列兵 yonder (a.): in or at that indicated place over there （在或可见于）那边的 1.Do you see yonder clump of trees? 你看见那边的一丛树林了吗？ 2. Whose is that farm yonder? 那边的农场是谁的？ …it’s no use making a mystery. Meaning: …don’t play words with me, tell me directly what has happened. 别跟我打哑谜，那没用。 It’s no good/use/need(doing sth.): It doesn’t help (doing sth.) 做…没用 1. It’s no use shouting. 叫喊并没有用。 2. It’s no good waiting here. 在这儿等没用。 3. It’s no need making such complicated preparation, it is just an ordinary meeting. 用不着做这么复杂的准备，这只不过是一个日常会议。 “ Well?” Meaning: “Who is it?” “什么人？”
