Meaning: He might be merely admiring the landscape. …他或许只是在那里欣赏风景而已。 permit (v.): make (sth.) possible 使（事物）有可能性 1. I will come tomorrow weather permitting. 要是天气许可，明天我一定来。 2. I will come in July if my health permits. 要是健康状况好的话，我七月份来。 may well: may possibly, or probably 很可能 1. His appearance has changed so much that you may well not recognize him. 他的外貌已经变了很多，你很可能认不出他来了。 2.
