			dispel (v.): drive away; cause to vanish 驱走（某事物）；使消失 1.His calm words dispelled our fears. 他安抚的话消除了我们的恐惧。 2.The sun soon dispelled the mists. 太阳出来，云开雾散。 alive to: completely aware of 完全清楚；意识到 1. He was alive to the dangers of the work. 他完全清楚工作的危险性。 2. Meaning: He aimed his rifle at the deadly spot on the horseman’s breast. He would certainly kill the man if fired. 透过准星望去，在骑马人的胸口上找好致命点。 sights(n.): interesting buildings, places, features, etc of a place or district 某处或某地令人感兴趣的建筑物、地方、特征；名胜 1. Come and see the sights of London. 来看看伦敦的名胜。 2. We have seen the historical sights of Beijing. 我们已游览了北京的名胜古迹。 cover (v.): keep aiming a gun at sb.（用枪炮）瞄准某人 1.?Keep them covered! 把枪口对准他们！ 2. Cover her while I phone the police. 你用枪看住她，我给警察打电话。 A touch upon the trigger and all would have been well with Carter Druse. Meaning: If he had pressed the trigger and killed the horseman, he would have fulfilled his duty and for the time being he wouldn’t have been tortured by the guilty conscience because he didn’t know at the point the horseman was his own father. 现在只要扣动扳机，卡特.德鲁斯便完成了任务。 concealed foe: the hidden soldiers 隐蔽的士兵 Carter Druse grew pale; he shook in every limb, turned faint. Meaning: A moment later he resumed his senses and reason became stronger than feelings. He came to realize that his father was his foe--- a big threat to his fellow soldiers. He had no other choice but to kill him so as to carry out his duty. 他这时已经神智清醒，思维正常，眼睛明亮，头脑冷静。 sound (adj.) 1) in good condition; healthy 完好的，健康的 1.He is of sound mind and body. 他身心健康。 2. The old lady has sound teeth. 老妇人有一口结实的牙齿。 2) full and complete; thorough 充分的，彻底的 1. Have a sound sleep. 睡个好觉。 2. We’ll make a sound investigation. 我们要作彻底调查。
