He kept himself invisible in his residence. 他深居简出。 For an instant Druse had a strange feeling that he had slept to the end of the war and was looking upon a noble work of art. Meaning: A strange feeling swept across his mind. He felt as if the war had come to and end while he was sleeping and as if he were enjoying a noble work of art. 一时间，德鲁斯心中涌上一股奇怪的感觉，就好像他一觉醒来战争已经结束。他正在品味着一件高贵的艺术品。 The feeling was dispelled by a slight movement of the horse which had drawn its body slightly backward from the verge… Meaning: But the feeling left him as soon as he noticed the horse drawing backward from the verge of the cliff. It dawned on him that he was not looking at a beautiful picture but a dangerous enemy. The movement of the horse immediately made him aware of the seriousness of the situation. 就在这时，马从岩石边缘向后退了几小步。 这一移动把他从幻觉中拉回到现实。
