			Nevertheless, fatigue had been stronger than resolution, and he had fallen asleep. Meaning: Though he was aware of the importance of task assigned to him, he was too tired to hold himself back from falling asleep. 然而，疲倦战胜了决心，他睡着了。 resolution (n.): quality of being resolute or firm; determination 坚决，坚定，坚毅 1. She lacked resolution. 她缺乏毅力。 2. His speech ended on a note of resolution. 他演讲结束时语调很坚决。 What good or bad angel came in a dream, to rouse him, who shall say? Meaning: He woke up in time. It was hard to say whether it should be a good thing or a bad thing for him to wake up at this moment. On the one hand it should be a good thing, for he had wakened in the right time to save his regiments from total ruin, but on the other hand, it shouldn’t be because he should have to save his comrades at the cost of his own father’s life. 也不知是天使还是恶魔把他从梦中唤醒，这恐怕只有老天爷才知道。 rouse (v.) rouse sb. from/out of sth.: cause sb. to wake 吵醒某人 1. I was roused by the sound of a bell. 钟声把我吵醒了。 2. It’s time to rouse the children. 该叫醒孩子们了。 mask 1) (n.): covering for the face, or part of it 面罩，面具 2) (v.): conceal, disguise 掩盖，伪装 1. This perfume won’t mask the unpleasant smell. 这种香水遮不住那股难闻的气味。 2. She can’t mask her fear. 她掩饰不住内心的恐惧。 masked ball: formal dance at which masks are worn to disguise the guests 化装舞会 His first feeling was a keen artistic delight. Meaning: As soon as he was woken up, he was fascinated by the beautiful scenery. He viewed it as if he were an artist. 此时他的第一个感觉是一种敏锐的艺术家所能捕捉到的喜悦。 On the cliff－ motionless at the extreme edge of the rock and sharply outlined against the sky －was a statue of impressive dignity. Meaning: The man and his horse up there formed a sharp picture against the background, the blue sky. His calmness and peacefulness made him look like a man carved in a marble stone. 山崖上的巨型岩石边缘处，在蓝天的衬托下，一尊庄严而高贵的雕像矗立在那里，一动不动，分外引人注目。
