He sure will come. 他一定会来。 Comparing the following words: sure, certain, positive, confident 这组词都有“确信的、确定的“意思 sure (adj.): not doubting or seeming to doubt what one believes, know, confident that one is right 这个词强调的是一种比较强烈的个人愿望或主观信念。而 “certain” 强调的是“毋庸置疑 的事实”。在句中sure 一般作表语，其主语一般是人。 1. Even if Mary did not come, she would send a present. The old lady was sure of that. 即使玛丽不来，她也会寄件礼物来。老太太对这点深信不疑。 2. I feel sure I’ve met her before somewhere. 我肯定从前在什么地方遇见过他。 certain (adj.): sure beyond doubt; that can be relied on 无疑；确定，这个词为常用词。着重强调已知晓了事实真相因而“毋庸置疑”。一般作表语。 其主语既可是人，也可是物。 1. It is certain that the earth is not round. 毫无疑问，地球是圆的。 2. He is certain of the correctness of his view. 他确信他的观点是正确的。 positive (adj.):with no possibility of doubt; clear and definite “肯定的，确信的”，这个词常作表语，强调一个人对自己所说的话或下的结论的准确性有坚定或足够的信心， 以至有时含有自负、武断的意思。 1. I’m positive that that’s the man I saw yesterday. 我肯定那就是我昨天看到的那个人。 2. They had to examine the dead fish before they had a positive answer as to what killed them. 他们必需先检查一下死鱼，然后才能断定是什么弄死了他们。 confident (adj.) :feeling or showing trust in one’s ability “自信的，有信心的”，强调有充分的根据或确凿的事实而对某事物的前景或未来抱着不可动摇的信念，也可指一个人的自信心。 1. He felt at ease and confident in the future. 他心情舒坦并对未来抱有信心。 2. I am confident in him. 我对他有信心。
