Ⅰ省略句（Elliptical Sentences）
1．概说
一个句子中有时一个或更多的成分会被省略掉，这样的句子称为省略句（Elliptical Sentences）。省略句中被省略的部分可能是：
1) 主语：
a. (I) Beg your pardon. 请再说一遍。
b. (I) Haven’t seen you for ages! 好久不见了！
c. (Do you) Want some? (你)要一点吗？
d. (Have you) Had a good time? 玩得好吗？
e. (It) Doesn’t matter. 没关系。
f. (It) Looks like rain. 像是要下雨的样子。
2) 谓语或谓语的一部分：
a. (Is there) Anything you want? 你要什么东西吗？
b. (There) Ought to be a comma here. 这儿应该有一个逗号。
c. (Is) Anything the matter? 有什么问题吗？
d. (Does) Anybody need help? 谁要人帮忙吗？
e. (Has) Mary done her homework? 玛丽作业做好了吗？
f. (Are) You hungry? 你饿吗？
3）宾语：
a. －Which of them is the better choice? —他们谁是更合适的人选？
－Well, it’s hard to tell (it).　　—哦，这很难说。　　　　
b. —Where is George? —乔治在哪里？
—I don’t know. —我不知道。
4）主语和谓语（或谓语的一部分），只剩下表语（1），宾语（2），状语（3），或其他成分（4）:
(1) a. What a pity (it is) you can’t go to the lecture! 真遗憾你不能去听课！
b. Sorry! 对不起！
c. Afraid I can’t come. 恐怕不能来了。
d. Tired? 累吗？
(2) a. —How many copies do you want? —你要几本？
—Three copies, please. —三本。
