Comparing the following words:
device, instrument, machine, tool
device (n): thing made or adapted for a special purpose
表示(为某种用途而制作或改装的)装置;器具。
1. He bought a device for sharpening old razor blades.
他买了一个磨旧剃刀片的器具。
2. The terrorists fitted many explosive devices in that building.
恐怖分子在那栋大楼里安装了许多爆炸装置。
instrument (n) : implement used in performing an action
表示“器械”,“仪器”,“测量仪器”,“仪表”,是为技术工作设计的工具,着重于工具的精密和复杂。
1. All surgical instruments must be sterilized before use.
所有外科手术器械在使用前都必须消毒。
2. A telephone is an instruments by which we can speak to people far away.
电话是可以用来同远方的人交谈的工具。
machine (n) : apparatus with several moving parts designed to perform a particular task and driven by electricity.
