			provide (v): Comparing the following words: provide, furnish, supply, give provide (v): make sth available for sb to use by giving 表示提供的意思时含有预见的意味，强调通过贮备而做好适合的或充分的准备，指把生活中必需的物资、钱财、资料等给需要者使用。它还意味着免费供给 1. We must provide for the need and safety of all the passengers. 我们必须要满足所有旅客的需求并保证其安全。 2. The university provides the students with lesson sheets. 学校免费供给学生讲义。 furnish (v): supply or provide sb/sth with sth 强调向某人、某物提供必不可少的或正常的，希望得到的东西。与 supply 的区别是； supply 是指因缺乏（want）而提供，而 furnish 则指因使用 （use）而提供。supply 有继续、不时提供的意味，而 furnish 则有一次提供齐全的意味。 1.They furnished the troops with information. 他们向军队提供情报。 2. They furnished him with necessary funds. 他们向他提供必须的资金。 supply(v):give sb sth that is needed or useful 尽管可表示在任何情况下提供任何帮助，并有继续、不断供应的意味，但有时则强调更换、补充或补缺的意思。施动者不仅可以是人，也可以是事物。另外，它并不明确是否免费供应，一般要收费。 1. Our task is to supply vegetable all the year round. 我们的任务是全年供应蔬菜。 2. Now we supply power to nine-tenths of the city’s home. 现在我们向这个城市十分之九的家庭提供电力。 give (v): provide to supply sb with sth 是普通用词，可以表示给、赠给、供给之意。 1. You’d better give yourself an hour to get there. 要到那里去的话，你得准备路上花一个小时。 2. You may be called to give evidence at the trail. 法庭可能传你去作证。 balance of payments Meaning: difference between the amount of money coming into a country and the amount going out, taking into account international business. 国际收支平衡 make sense : have an understandable meaning 有意义；有道理；讲得通 1. What you say makes no sense. 你说的话没有道理。 2. These words are jumbled up and don’t make sense. 这些词藻堆砌在一起讲不通。 be sensible 是明智的；是合情合理的 1. It doesn’t make sense to buy that expensive coat when these cheaper ones are just as good. 这些便宜的大衣也挺好，何必买那件贵的呢。 2. It would make sense to leave early. 还是早一点走好。 “a modern concept evolved to meet the requirements of the modern age” Meaning: “a modern concept which has been developed to meet the requirements of modern age” “满足时代要求而应运而生的现代观念”。
