Background Information

The Smithsonian Institution: (史密森研究院/美国国立博物馆) A scientific and cultural institution
established in 1846 when Congress voted to accept the legacy of James Smithson. It is a collection
of museums which preserves more than 100 million items of scientific, historical, and artistic interest,
and thereby gaining the title “the National Attic”.

The National Air and Space Museum: Previously the National Air Museum founded in 1946. It has been
located on the Mall since 1976. It is the most popular museum in the country, where one can see exhibits
and collections of achievements in flight and space exploration.
