Warm-up Activity


1. What does the author mean by the sixth sense?

Mother¡¯s intuition, mother¡¯s feeling about sth. wrong with her child, or another sense beyond sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.

2. What examples of the sixth sense does the author give in the text?

A mother of five children, and an escape artist.

3. What happened to the mother one night?

Mother awoke in the middle of the night and sensed that her three-year-old son was wrong, she found him in a field just minutes after the accident.

4. Who was the escape artist?

The escape artist was Houdini (1874¡ª1926). He was Hungarian born U.S. magician famous for his escapes from prison cells, from wooden boxes floating in rivers, from locked tanks full of water, etc.
