Synopsis

The brief description of the story
After inviting the author to a simple picnic the next afternoon, Mrs. Brown , the hostess, began to make some preparations. She was too busy to go shopping, and hence turned to the author for help. The author had to make the purchase by request, and returned home heavily loaded with the food for the picnic. The next morning happened to be fine. At the expense of a late breakfast and cold lunch, they finally got ready and piled various bags into the car and started on the outing.

However, they could not settle themselves down until Mrs. Brown was satisfied with a particular meadow. They had unpacked all the bags for a meal when they were told that the meadow was right in the middle of the cow pasture and must be cleared out within twenty minutes before the cows would be driven back to grass. How discouraged they were! It really took them a great effort to pack the bags with so much unnecessary stuff. To make matters worse, they were caught in a rain and traffic jams on the way home. In the end, they had to finish the picnic in the dinning-room.
