Questions for Consideration

1. What do you think the narrator means by ¡°I am certain I heard old Mr. Wigden chuckle over my shoulder as I cleaned the last tank¡±?

The author is using a whimsical expression to share his personal understanding of how Mr. Wigden must have felt when he found the author met a similar challenge in just the same way as he had many years ago.

2. Do many people have this same gift of understanding in our society? Why do you think cherishing children¡¯s innocence is important to us?

Not so many.
In the sophisticated world of adults, the wonderful innocence of children is lacking and adults can sense the fragrance of the innocence mostly from children. Therefore, the understanding of the power to preserve the innocence is important and wonderful to both adults and children.
